Due to the EU's isolation policy, thousands of people have to wait out their journey and persevere as refugees in the Bosnian border area. This winter, this particularly affects Afghan families who are fleeing to the supposedly safe Europe for fear of persecution by the Taliban.

The insufficient state aid means that they have to find shelter in ruined buildings or self-made tents. In winter, living conditions there are particularly precarious, because in addition to the lack of food, there are freezing temperatures of up to -20 degrees.

Blindspots therefore builds mobile stoves and
distributes them together with firewood in the temporary shelters. The procurement of wood is problematic for the people due to humidity and snow, and dry wood is important so that the shelters can at least be heated to temperatures necessary for survival. It also gives people the opportunity to cook a warm meal every now and then.

Seit Jahren werden die EU-Außengrenzen mit Gewalt verteidgt. Die kroatische Polizei geht dabei besonder brutal vor. Systematisch und immer wieder schickt sie asylsuchende Menschen rechtsbrüchig nach Bosnien zurück, nimmt ihnen ihr Hab und Gut ab und wendet dabei nicht selten extreme physische und psychische Gewalt an. Diese illegalen Pushbacks und die Grenzgewalt sind Thema der zweiten Folge des Bl!ndspots-Podcasts. Für die Folge haben Kai und Marita mit Schutzsuchenden über die Gewalt gesprochen, die sie an den EU-Außengrenzen erfahren mussten, haben eine Aktivistin des Border Violence Monitoring Networks getroffen und sich die Situaion rechtlich von einer Juristin des Institut für Menschenrechte einordnen lassen.

For years, the EU's external borders have been defended with violence. The Croatian police is particularly brutal. They systematically and repeatedly send asylum seekers back to Bosnia in violation of the law, take away their belongings and often use extreme physical and psychological violence. These illegal pushbacks and border violence are the topic of the second episode of the Bl!ndspots podcast. For this episode, Kai and Marita talked to people seeking protection about the violence they experienced at the EU's external borders, met an activist from the Border Violence Monitoring Network, and had a lawyer from the Institute for Human Rights give a legal perspective on the situation.
