The German government allows arms manufacturer KMW to produce 100 2000 self-propelled howitzers for Ukraine. In addition, 30 Gepard tanks may be exported to Kiev. The German government has given arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) permission to produce 100 self-propelled howitzers 2000 for Ukraine. The company confirmed corresponding reports by "Der Spiegel" and ZDF.

Production is to begin immediately. Ukraine had asked in April whether the howitzers could be purchased directly from the manufacturer. KMW immediately submitted an offer. A KMW spokesman told Der Spiegel that the manufacturer submitted a corresponding application to the Ministry of Economy on July 11 and received approval for construction two days later.

Production of the weapon systems is now to begin immediately, he said. The total volume of the order is 1.7 billion euros. It is not yet clear when the first howitzers will be delivered to Ukraine. Production of all howitzers is expected to take several years.

30 Gepard tanks
In addition, the government gave the green light for the delivery of 30 Gepard tanks. "I can tell you that the German government has approved the export of 30 Gepard tanks. This export has started," ZDF quoted a KMW spokesman as saying.
