Using German prepositions when asked "Wann?" (When?)

The preposition um is used when you say the time:

Wann treffen wir uns? - Um 19 Uhr.
When will we meet? - At 19 o'clock.

Preposition am (an + dem) - when it comes to time of day, days of the week and date:

Wann geht ihr ins Kino? - Am Nachmittag. / Am Freitag. / Am 8. (achten) März.
When do you go to the cinema? - After noon. / On Friday. / Eighth of March.

Preposition im (in + dem) - season, name of months, indication of the year.

Wann ist es passiert? - Im Herbst. / Im September. / Im Jahr (e) 2005.
When did it happen? - In the autumn. / In September. / In 2005.

NO! There are some exceptions:

in der Nacht (die Nacht)

in der Früh (die Früh)

in der Woche (die Woche)

am Wochenende (das Wochenende)
