Today let's talk about pets! Not everyone has them, so immediately the phrase for those who prefer not to have cats or dogs or anything else at home: 'Keine Haustiere haben (not having pets)':
Ich habe keine Haustiere, da ich allergisch bin - I have no pets as I am allergic

What kind of pets are there? In Germany, for example, for 2020 the most popular pet was the cat (die Katze), followed by the dog (der Hund), then the so-called Kleintiere - hamsters (der Hamster), rabbits (das Kaninchen), chinchillas (der Chinchilla) and mice (die Maus). In addition to these, they are popular in Germany:
Ziervögel - ornamental birds (parrots, canaries, etc.)
Aquarien - aquarium animals (fish (der Fisch) and turtles (die Schildkröte))
Terrarien - various reptiles, e.g. die Schlange - snake

What do we need for our pets?
